The Okanagan Rockets Faced off at home for the first time in 3 weeks against the Valley West Giants. Coming into the weekend the Rockets sat on top of the BCMML holding a record of 8 Wins and 0 losses, while the Giants at the opposite end with 0 Wins 4 Losses 1 Tie 1 Overtime Loss.
The Rockets came out strong in game one despite a depleted line up still managing to outpace the Giants with a 6 -1 win. Rockets had 5 different goal scorers in on the action. Steel Quiring in his first game back from injury lead the charge with two goals while Cayden Hamming was once again strong kicking aside 30 of 31 shots against.
Rockets started the second game in the series going up by two but then proceeded to allow the Giants to score three unanswered goals in the second frame. The Rockets Regrouped and scored one first shift of the third but this one would take until overtime. In overtime, Goalie Bailey Monteith shut the door with an incredible glove save on a 2-0 chance from the Giants. Paterson would then finish it off shortly after beating their defence with a wide drive and scoring short side to seal the deal.
Coach Ferguson said "Paterson (1G) and Hicklin (2G) both had one of their best games of the season while we also saw really solid play on the back end from Moger (2A) Elliott (1A) and Gilowski. It was nice to have Scott Gilowski back in the line up and we look forward to him continuing to be a physical presence back there, shutting the opposing teams best forwards down. Ferguson also added "I think with the depleted line up we had it was great to see the resilience and ability to find a way to win regardless of who was in or out of the line up."
Up next for the Rockets are the North West Hawks on October 26th at 5pm & 27th at 12:45pm at the Capital News Centre. If you looking for fast paced family fun hockey for free don't miss out coming and cheering on your Okanagan Rockets.
