The Okanagan Rockets are pleased to announce that Logan Simpson will join the Rockets coaching staff as a 2nd assistant/video coach for the 2016/17 season.
Simpson, a native of Castlegar, BC, spent his playing career with the Castlegar Rebels of the KIJHL before heading to the Selkirk College Saints of the BCIHL up until the 2010/11 season where his playing career came to an end. Logan would step aside from the game for four years to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration before getting back into hockey in 2014, this time from behind the bench.
Simpson spent the 2015/16 season behind the bench of the Winfield Minor Hockey Midget Tier 3 Bruins, where the team posted a successful record, earning Simpson the Winfield Minor Hockey Coach of the Year. Logan has also spent time recently with BC Hockey’s High Performance Program as an evaluator with the U15 Regional Camp and also served as an assistant coach at the U16 BC Cup in Salmon Arm, BC.
“I am really looking forward to working with Logan,” commented Rockets GM Braeden Pistawka “He is a young, knowledgeable coach with a want to learn. He has had experience as a head coach at the midget level, and has shown that he can lead and teach. He will fit in perfectly with the culture and environment that we are building for this program.”
Logan will join the Rockets staff as the team’s 2nd assistant coach as well as taking over the reigns as the team’s “eye in the sky” as the video coach. The Rockets will further their search for an assistant coach as the summer goes on.
Okanagan Rockets hockey will be back at the Capital News Centre as the Rockets annual Spring ID Camp takes place this weekend. Goalies report to camp on Thursday, May 12th while all players will follow on Friday, May 13th as the camp will run through to Sunday, May 15th.
