The Okanagan Rockets have a chance to punch their ticket to the BCMML semi-finals tonight in Game #2 against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.
GAME #1 RECAP
The Rockets will look to keep the momentum going tonight after a strong final ten minutes last night where the Rockets tallied three goals en route to a 5-2 victory. Lucas Cullen, Zach Erhardt and Chase Stevenson all had third period markers in the win that put the Rockets ahead 1-0 in the best-of-three series. After Okanagan got off to a bit of a slow start, they began to find their game and really start to dominate with many prolonged offensive zone shifts and outshot the Thunderbirds 32-9 after the first 20 minutes had elapsed.
Okanagan found their offense that they have been missing in games against the Thunderbirds this season, getting big nights from some veterans in Zach Erhardt (2-0-2), Lucas Cullen (1-1-2), Chase Stevenson (1-1-2) & Danny Gatenby (0-2-2). OK continued to look dominate on the penalty kill, going 2/2 and won the special teams battle with a late PP marker by Stevenson to push the power play to 1/4 on the night.
The Rockets improved to 3-0 against the Thunderbirds in playoff history and can sink the T-Birds season with a victory tonight, which would be the 3rd time in the last 4 years that the club would be able to advance past the first round.
Hayden Dick will return to the lineup on Saturday after serving a one-game suspension for a hit in the regular season finale versus the Cariboo Cougars. Okanagan will still be without Shawn Guison and Hayden Courtney, who missed Friday’s action with upper-body injuries.
