Weekend Preview: Rockets vs. Cougars

February 26, 2016

The Okanagan Rockets (23-10-5) conclude their 2015/16 regular season with a weekend series at Capital News Centre against the 2nd place Cariboo Cougars (27-8-3).

Last Weekend: The Rockets capped off their road regular season schedule against the Thompson Blazers in Kamloops last weekend with the Rockets winning both games in dominating fashion. The Rockets took home a 3-1 win on Saturday and an 8-1 win Sunday while outshooting the Blazers by a 129-20 margin over the two games. The Cougars will come into the weekend refreshed after having last weekend off.

When We Saw You Last: The Rockets and Cougars met up back in the final weekend of November in the Great White North of Prince George, playing in tow very good games. Saturday’s game saw the Cougars come away with a 2-1 win in a tightly contested game before the Rockets pulled away with a 6-1 win on the Sunday, highlighted by two Lucas Cullen goals.

Shots, Shots & More Shots: The Rockets have been throwing everything and the kitchen sink on their opponents over the last two weekends. In those series’ against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds and Thompson Blazers, the Rockets outshot both of them by a staggering 234-66 margin.

Special Teams: The Rockets penalty kill has been very solid ever since Okanagan returned to action after the Christmas break, including going 7/8 over the last weekend against the Thompson Blazers. To go along with that, the power play (which had been ice cold at times) came to play on Sunday as the Rockets scored 5 PPG’s en route to an 8-1 win.

Lineup News: It’s a good news/bad news scenario for the Rockets when it comes to their lineup for the weekend. The good news, Lucas Cullen will return to Okanagan’s lineup after missing the last 6 games with an upper body injury. The bad news, Hayden Courtney sustained an injury at practice this week and will not be available to play this weekend.

Historically Speaking: The Rockets have a 17-17-4 record against the Cougars since the 2006/07 season, while picking up a 11-4-3 record while playing the Cougars on home ice.
