The Okanagan Rockets picked up win number 22 on the season with a dominant 3-1 victory over the Thompson Blazers in Kamloops on Saturday night.
The Rockets came out flying in the first frame, and scored the only goal of the period to show for it. Alec Zawatsky centered a pass from behind the goal and Zach Erhardt took the pass and beat Blazer net minder Aris Anagnostopoulos to the glove side for his 6th goal of the season and a 1-0 Rockets lead. That score line would hold up into the 2nd period with the Rockets pouring 19 shots on the Blazers goal in the first, compared to the just five shots that Thompson put on Rockets goalie Cole Demers.
The Rockets would keep the ball rolling in the 2nd period with another pass from behind the goal. This time it was Eli Zummack’s turn to dish the puck, finding Hayden Dick in the slot and his backhander beat Anagnostopoulos for his 15th goal of the year and a 2-0 Rockets lead.
Jacob Bourchier would add to the lead later in the frame after a miscue behind the Blazer net. Garrett Ewert and Anagnostopoulos collided behind the goal with the puck squiting out to the slot where an open Bourchier put home his 2nd goal of the year for a 3-0 Okanagan lead.
Ryan Chyzowski would get the homeside within two before the frame was out, splitting the Rockets defense for a tally and a 3-1 Rockets lead after 40 minutes of play. OK continued to dominate the shot clock, outshooting Thompson by a 41-10 count.
The 3rd would be a scoreless frame despite the Rockets pouring on 12 more shots. OK would eventually outshoot the Blazers by a 63-12 count over 60 minutes en route to a 3-1 victory.
Aris Anagnostopoulos was very good tonight, making 60 saves on 63 of the shots he faced while Cole Demers made 11 saves on 12 shots for his 18th win of the season.
The Rockets (22-10-5) will look for the sweep of the weekend when they take on the Thompson Blazers (6-25-6) in the final meeting of the season between the two clubs. Puck drop set for 1:00 pm tomorrow afternoon from the Sandman Centre. The game can be caught live on www.playfullscreen.com.
