The Okanagan Rockets are proud to announce that 1999-born forward Matt Kowalski will be joining the BCHL’s Nanaimo Clippers for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.
Kowalski, 16, was in his first season as a Rocket, although his numbers may not point toward that as he has been having an excellent season. Matt was tied for the league lead in points in the BCMML with 42; scoring 17 goals and chipping in 25 assists. The Vernon native was also recently announced as the BCMML’s Player Of The Month for the month of November. Kowalski was also red hot as of late, boasting a 10 game point streak.
"It's obviously tough to see one of our own go, in saying that we couldn't be more excited for the opportunity Matt has been given," said Rockets General Manager Braeden Pistawka. "Ours and Matt's goal this season was to develop his skills in order to make the jump to junior next season and it's great to see him being rewarded for his hard work in the first half of the season."
Kowalski has played one game with Nanaimo this season, earning his first career BCHL point in a 7-5 win against the Merritt Centennials on Friday, December 11th. Matt will join the Clippers in time for their game on Friday against the Prince George Spruce Kings. The Rockets would like to thank Matt for everything he did with the club this year and wish him the very best on his transition into junior hockey.
The Rockets, meanwhile, will spend the weekend in North Vancouver facing off against the Vancouver North West Giants in their final games of 2015. Puck drops are set for 7:15 pm on Saturday night and 10:45 am Sunday morning from the North Shore Winter Club. All the action can be seen live on www.playfullscreen.com.
