The Okanagan Rockets dominated this weekend from start to finish, outscoring the North Island Silvertips by a total of 14-1 with 6-0 and 8-1 victories.
The Rockets had offense from everywhere on Saturday and a pair of two goal scorers. Coleton Bilodeau, picking up goals #3 and 4 on his season while Lucas Cullen started his monster weekend plotting his 3rd and 4th in the first game of the weekend.
Hayden Dick (8th) and Alec Zawatsky (15th) rounded out the scoring in the 6-0 Rocket victory on Saturday evening. Cole Demers picked up his 4th shutout of the season, stopping all 23 shots he faced.
Sunday the Rockets got off to a quick start, scoring on their first 2 shots on goal and that would only be the start to a terrific first period, scoring four times. Leading scorer Matt Kowalski (17th), Dick (9th), Zawatsky (16th) & Jordan Todd (6th) all picked up first period markers. The Silvertips Cole Pridham scored what would be the only goal of the weekend for the home team.
Ben Dietrich-Scammell (5th) and Cullen (5th) would add 2nd period markers for the Rockets while Cullen (6th) would add yet another goal in the 3rd period for a four goal weekend for #14 in red. Shawn Guison (2nd) would complete a dominating 8-1 win for the Rockets and would finish off a weekend and season sweep of their counterparts from Nanaimo.
Cole Demers was again in goal for the Rockets on Sunday morning, earning his 10th win of the season, turning aside 18 of the 19 shots he saw in the weekend finale.
The Rockets took advantage of a very undispiline North Island side, going 7/14 on the powerplay over the weekend, a 50% clip that will make the Rockets coaching staff very happy to see.
The Rockets (14-7-1) return home after a successful 3-1 road trip for a weekend set against the only team to sweep the Rockets this season, the South Island Royals (10-8-4). Game times are set for 4:30 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am Sunday morning from the Capital News Centre. If you can’t make it to the rink, catch the action live on playfullscreen.com.
