The Okanagan Rockets recorded their 5th shutout win Saturday afternoon, scoring once in each of the 3 periods to carry them to a 3-0 win over the visiting Thompson Blazers.
The Rockets got on the board early in the first period as Zach Erhardt slammed home his 5th goal of the season on a rebound shot from Matt Kowalski at the 4:22 mark of the opening frame to give the home side a 1-0 lead. OK fired 22 shots at Blazers goaltender Aris Anagnostopoulos in the opening 20 minutes and could only get one by him. The Kelowna native was terrific all night in front of his family and friends.
The Rockets gained a 2-0 advantage in the final minute of the 2nd period, the 19:20 mark to be exact, on a goal mouth scramble that was tapped home by Jordan Todd. Todd’s 5th goal of the season came on an initial shot from the slot by Alec Zawatsky that somehow Anagnostopoulos got a piece off, but Todd was there for the rebound to put the Rockets up by two goals after 40 minutes.
Okanagan capped off the scoring in the 3rd period with a power play goal coming off the stick of Chase Stevenson. The play started with Eli Zummack behind the goal where Eli threw a no look pass out to an open Stevenson who buried his 9th of the year and gave the Rockets a 3-0 lead at the 11:24 mark of the frame.
Cole Demers was solid for the Rockets in goal, making 19 saves en route to his 3rd shutout of the season. As mentioned, Anagnostopoulos was great, making 51 saves on 54 Rockets shots and kept the Blazers in the game all afternoon.
The Rockets (10-6-1) are back in action tomorrow afternoon from the Capital News Centre, another 3:00 pm faceoff against the Thompson Blazers (2-11-4). If you can’t make it to the rink, watch online at www.playfullscreen.com.
