Rockets Ignite Blazers With 5-1 Win & Weekend Sweep

November 22, 2015

The Okanagan Rockets completed their 3rd weekend sweep of the season thanks to a 5-1 win Sunday morning over the Thompson Blazers.

The Rockets started the scoring early on Sunday as Chase Stevenson got the home side on the board just 1:32 into the game. Stevenson tipped in a Spencer Hora slap shot from the right point for his 10th of the season and a 1-0 lead.

Okanagan doubled their lead on a jam play after a fluttering shot from Hora found it’s way through. The puck trickled through the glove side of Blazer net minder Max Palaga and was shot in by Alec Zawatsky, getting credit for his 12th goal of the year and a 2-0 Rocket lead after 1.

Thompson would open the scoring in the 2nd period with a goal by Jett Saharchuk but the Rockets would counter back with two of their own. The first was a terrific play by Zawatsky, slipping his way through two Blazer defenders and roofing a shot high over the glove side for his 13th of the season and a 3-1 Rocket lead at the 7:34 mark of the 2nd period.

Jacob Bourchier would give the Rockets a field goal advantage, scoring on a shot from the slot for his first BCMML goal and giving OK a 4-1 lead with his goal coming with just one second left on the score clock.

Chase Stevenson rounded out the scoring for the game, earning the only goal of the 3rd period. Stevenson’s 2nd of the game came on a rebound after a Shawn Guison point shot was initially stopped by Palaga, but Stevenson was in front to flip the rebound over him and give the Rockets a 5-1 win.

The Rockets had Liam Hughes in net today and he played strong, stopping 17 of 18 shots fired his way. The Blazers countered with Max Palaga who made 45 saves on 50 shots on goal.

The Rockets (11-6-1) hit the road for the next two weekends, first stopping in Prince George for a big weekend set against the Cariboo Cougars (10-6-2). Puck drops scheduled for 4:45 pm on Saturday, November 28th and 9:45 am on Sunday, November 29th. The Rockets next action at CNC is on December 12th and 13th when they play host to the South Island Royals. Remember, as always, that every game can be seen live on www.playfullscreen.com.
