Rockets Melt Ice With 10-0 Win On Saturday

October 25, 2015

The Okanagan Rockets used a six goal 2nd period and a four goal 3rd period to cruise to a 10-0 victory over the Kootenay Ice Saturday afternoon from the Capital News Centre.

The game got off to a bit of a sleepy start before the Rockets picked up the pace of play midway through the first frame. No scoring happened in the period but the home side piled on 18 shots to Kootenay’s 4 after 20 minutes.

Things started to open up in the 2nd period and in a big way for the Rockets, opening the scoring at the 3:09 mark of the period courtesy of a familiar face in Matt Kowalski, with his 6th of the season.

Myles Mattila was next to hit the score sheet, finding the back of the goal for the first time this season on a snipe from the left circle just 40 seconds after Kowalski’s goal to give OK a 2-0 cushion.

The Rockets tacked on another goal at the 6:20 mark thanks to Hayden Dick, capping off a pretty passing play between Eli Zummack and Ben Dietrich-Scammell to make the score 3-0 in favour of the Rockets.

OK would add three more goals in the 2nd frame; Matt Kowalski picking up two more markers for the hat trick and a goal from Alec Zawatsky.

The Rockets would pile on four more goals in the 3rd period to put up a 10 spot on the Ice today. Kowalski added his 4th goal of the game, and 9th of the season, while Zawatsky tallied his 2nd of the game. Bilodeau (2nd) and Todd (4th) rounded out the Rockets scoring.

Liam Hughes was excellent on Saturday, collecting his 1st win as a Rocket, as well as picking up a 20 save shutout and an assist to go along with that. Kootenay used Ben Kelsh for most of the game, making 36 saves on 45 shots. Curt Doyle came in for a brief moment, allowing a goal on 4 shots to finish the 2nd period.

The Rockets (6-4-1) wrap up the weekend set against the Kootenay Ice (1-7-1) tomorrow morning at 10:00 am from the Capital News Centre. If you can’t make it, watch the game live on www.playfullscreen.com.
