The Okanagan Rockets dominated from start to finish in a commanding 9-0 victory over the North Island Silvertips on Sunday morning.
The Rockets opened the scoring at 6:37 of the first period with a power play goal set up by Eli Zummack. Chase Stevenson took a feed from Zummack in front of the goal and went forehand backhand for his 6th goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Ethan Trampuh would give the Rockets a 2-0 lead late in the first frame with help of a long stretch pass from Spencer Hora. Trampuh took the long feed and chipped the puck over Derek Krall’s glove side for his 2nd of the season and a two goal advantage. The Rockets outshot the ‘Tips in the 1st by a 25-0 margin.
The Rockets scored a total of four times in the 2nd frame, while outshooting the ‘Tips 20-6 in the process. Hayden Dick scored twice in the period, picking up goals number four and five on his season. Jordan Todd added his 3rd of the season while Zach Erhardt tallied his 1st goal of the campaign.
Okanagan added three more goals in the final period, with Erhardt and Stevenson both scoring their 2nd goals of the game. Eli Zummack added a late tally at the 18:17 mark to finish off a dominating performance. The Rockets would go on to outshot North Island 16-3 in the 3rd and a staggering 61-9 in the overall 60 minutes of play.
Derek Krall and John Hawthorne split time in the ‘Tips cage; Krall getting pulled after the Rockets 5th goal at 9:39 of the 2nd and Hawthorne taking the rest of the game. Cole Demers earned the nine save shutout today in the Rockets goal.
