The Okanagan Rockets (3-4-1) start a 4-game home stand at the Capital News Centre, starting off with a weekend series against the North Island Silvertips (0-7-1).
Last Weekend: The Rockets spent a weekend in Victoria; taking on the South Island Royals in a weekend they would rather forget, dropping 4-1 and 3-2 decisions and being swept for the first time this season. The ‘Tips are coming off of a weekend of being swept as well. They fell 2-0 and 7-2 at home, in Nanaimo, against the Cariboo Cougars.
When We Saw You Last: The Rockets swept the season series with the Silvertips last season, winning both games in Nanaimo by 6-4 and 4-3 scores in October. The Rockets finished the sweep at CNC later in the year courtesy of 6-2 and 4-2 victories.
Big Stretch Ahead: 4 of the next 5 weekends of hockey for the Rockets are in the comfy confines of the Capital News Centre, where a very valuable 16 points will be up for grabs.
Toppling The ‘Tips: The Rockets currently hold a 13-game winning streak versus their opponent from the North Island. Okanagan has outscored the Silvertips 66-30 in that thirteen game stretch.
Keeping It Even Strength: The Rockets penalty kill was leaned on heavily last weekend against the Royals, going 7/11 over the two-game series. The Rockets allowed 3 power play goals on Sunday, which was the key in their 3-2 loss to South Island.
Two New A’s: The Rockets announced on Thursday night that they would have two more players added to their leadership group. Spencer Hora and Chase Stevenson will both serve as assistant captains for the remainder of the season.
Historically Speaking: The Rockets hold an outstanding 26-6-4 record versus the Silvertips since the 2006/07 season. Okanagan also has an equally strong 14-3-1 record at the CNC vs. the ‘Tips in that time.
