The Okanagan Rockets struggled in their trip to Vancouver Island, being swept at the hands of the South Island Royals on a Thanksgiving weekend series.
Saturday, the game was slow to find a first goal with nothing happening in the first 20 minutes, but the Royals would add two in the 2nd while the Rockets countered with a Chase Stevenson goal to make it 2-1 after 40 minutes. South Island preserved their victory in the 3rd with goals from Brandon McClintick and Jake Wilheim to give the Royals a 4-1 win in the first game of the weekend set.
Sunday’s game was much closer, seeing the Royals again open the scoring on a goal by Oliver Hahn. The Rockets would tie the game off the stick of Eli Zummack which would conclude the first period at a 1-1 score. The Royals would take their lead back courtesy of Sean Strange to make it a 2-1 game before Matt Kowalski would tie the game again for the Rockets, setting up for an exciting finish. It was the Rockets undisciplined play that would bury them in this game as Strange scored the only goal in the 3rd, all 3 goals for South Island coming on the man advantage, and the Royals would complete the sweep with a 3-2 win.
The Rockets will head back home this weekend, taking on the North Island Silvertips at the Capital News Centre. Games times are set for 5:00 pm on Saturday evening and 10:00 am on Sunday morning. All the action can be seen live on playfullscreen.com.
