Rockets 'Chase' Giants Undefeated Record With 5-2 Victory

October 5, 2015

The O

kanagan Rockets ‘chased’ the Vancouver North West Giants four game winning streak thanks in part to a 3 point performance by Chase Stevenson and collecting five goals as a team, en route to a 5-2 victory over the previously undefeated Giants.

The Rockets didn’t get off to the start they would have liked, being shorthanded three straight times and being burned once, that on a 5-on-3 goal coming off the stick of Will Warm. Warm’s point shot found it’s way through traffic and past Demers just 3:20 into the game for a 1-0 Giants lead. The Rockets would strike back, leveling the score at 15:35 of the first frame, courtesy of Chase Stevenson. Chase, who was making his Rockets debut Saturday afternoon, received a pass from Eli Zummack and deked forehand-backhand past David Tendeck to tie the game at 1, a score that would hold up to the 1st intermission.

The Rockets would take their first lead of the game at the 6:04 mark of the 2nd period on a power play of their own. Alec Zawatsky took a cross-ice pass from Chase Stevenson and made no mistake, burying a wrister past Tendeck for his 4th goal of the season. Spencer Hora would increase their lead to two with his 1stBCMML goal, a power play marker that trickled through the legs of the Giants net minder for a 3-1 lead with just 1:14 remaining in the middle stanza.

The Rockets got off to a quick start in the 3rd period, keeping their foot on the gas pedal. Hayden Dick would tally his 2nd goal of the season, taking a pass from Coleton Bilodeau and extended the Rockets lead to 4-1. The Giants would get a goal back in the likes of a Jackson Shepard backhander 5:14 into the final period. Okanagan would seal the deal with 10:20 remaining; Chase Stevenson added his 2nd of the game after batting a bouncing puck in past Tendeck to cap off an impressive 5-2 victory.

Cole Demers continued to build upon an impressive sophomore campaign, making 38 saves on 40 shots to improve to 3-0 on the season, including a miniscule goals against average of 1.67.

The Rockets will go for the sweep of the Giants tomorrow morning at 10:00 am from the Capital News Centre. If you can’t make it to the rink, call all the action live on playfullscreen.com.
