The Okanagan Rockets had a strong performance at the first BCMML Showcase, collecting 3 out of a possible 4 points with a 4-4 tie and a 6-3 victory over the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds over the weekend.
The Rockets scored three times in the final 12:41 of Saturday’s game to force a 4-4 tie with the T-Birds. Fraser Valley’s special teams were a big factor, scoring three times on the power play, along with a shorthanded marker.
Sunday’s game saw OK pull ahead late in the game, picking up three 3rd period markers, including two from Alec Zawatsky. Jordan Todd would find the score sheet with a goal for the second straight game while Shawn Guison’s first BCMML goal was officially the game winning goal, as he tallied the Rockets 4th marker.
One Rocket in particular had a strong weekend; Matt Kowalski scored twice and collected 4 assists for a big six-point weekend en route to a 10-goal outburst from OK over the 2 game series. Alec Zawatsky found the net three times, while Jordan Todd lit the red lamp in back to back games.
The Rockets will return to the Okanagan next weekend, October 4th and 5th, when they will take on long standing rival, the Vancouver North West Giants. Game times are set for 3:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am Sunday at the Capital News Centre.
