The Okanagan Rockets used a three goal 2nd period and a 28 save shutout from Cole Demers to power them to a 4-0 victory over the North East Chiefs.
In a scoreless first period, it was the Rockets goaltending that shone. Cole Demers made 12 saves in the first frame, and looked solid on each one of them. Opposing goaltender, NE Chiefs Andrew Henderson made 9 first period saves, using all of his 6’4 stature to his advantage.
The Rockets got the scoring opened up in the 2nd frame at the 9:34 mark, courtesy of Ethan Trampuh. Ethan centered a puck in front and took a bounce off a defender in front and into the back of the goal for his first BCMML goal. The Rockets would then add two markers late in the frame, converting on a 5-on-4 power play. Matt Kowalski finished off a terrific pass from Eli Zummack on a 3-on-1 break. That was also Kowalski’s first BC Major Midget League goal at the 18:40 mark of the 2nd. Just 14 seconds later, another first for the Rockets as Coleton Bilodeau netted his first goal past the glove side of Henderson.
The Rockets find their 4th goal of the game early in the final period, thanks to returning forward Ben Dietrich-Scammell. Ben intercepted a cross-ice pass and moved in on a shorthanded breakaway, finishing high over the glove side of Henderson for a bardown snipe.
Demers would make nine 3rd period saves to complete his shutout in his first start of the season.
The Rockets will travel down to Richmond next weekend for the 1st of two BCMML Showcase's, where they will take on the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. Game times are set for 2:15 pm on Saturday and at 11:00 am on Sunday at the Richmond Oval.
