The Okanagan Rockets used a three goal first period to push their End of the Roll Icebreaker Tournament to 2-0-0 with a 3-1 victory over the Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy.
A quick start is an understatement for how this game unfolded, seeing 3 goals scored in the first 3:43 of this contest. Coeur d’Alene opened the scoring at 2:16 of the first frame but the Rockets would respond quickly. Myles Mattila tied the game at 3:12 and then just 31 seconds later, at 3:43, Zach Erhardt would give Okanagan their first lead of the game. Hayden Dick added another Rocket tally at 13:53, powering to the goal and sneaking one through the pads of Couer d’Alene goaltender Matthew Brunton’s pads.
The Rockets would take that 3-1 lead all the way through the intermission and after that, the Rockets would compile their fourth goal. Rayman Bassi was left alone in front and slide a puck through the pads of Brunton at the 13:06 mark of the 2nd frame and would head to the 3rd with that lead in hand.
There was no scoring to report of in the 3rd and final frame, despite a couple of good chances from either club.
The Rockets used the tandem of Nic Bregeda and Brody Greggain in net today with Greggain not allowing a goal in his tournament debut.
Okanagan will take their 2-0-0 record to the test as they take on the Okanagan Hockey Academy’s White team at 6:45 pm. OHA is coming off a win of their own, a 4-2 victory over the North East Chiefs earlier today.
