For the first time in club history, the Okanagan Rockets will utilize a spring identification camp to help build their roster for the 2015-2016 season.
The camp will be held from May 8-10th at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna.
Rockets general manager David Michaud expects the intensity to be extremely high for the first time camp. "BC Hockey has provided us with the consent to commit to up to 12 players at this camp and that is our goal heading into it." said Michaud. "This camp gives us the opportunity to form 60 percent of our roster and it gives us a great idea on what we are working with heading into the 2015-2016 season."
The weekend will consist of a parent / player information session on Friday May 8th, followed by on ice sessions that evening, through Sunday. Post camp, all players will sit down with Michaud and head coach Simon Ferguson for an exit meeting.
The player/parent session will include information on exciting changes being made to the Rockets academic structure, as well a break down of the entire Rockets program. From the first class locker room, Capital News Centre, baseline concussion testing, and an in depth-breakdown of what the BCMML will provide prospective families.
"I always get excited about the information session" said Michaud. "I'm very proud of what not only the Rockets offer, but the BCMML as a whole. It's the only midget development model that mimics life in junior hockey, with the ultimate prize of the chance to play for a national championship along the lines of the Memorial Cup, or the RBC Cup. I think being a Rocket provides you the best of all worlds, the chance to be on the ice a ton, as well as a meaningful schedule that is full of rivalries and intensity."
Registration details through BC Hockey will be made available shortly. All registration will be handled on-line and a full camp schedule will be completed soon as well.
