Despite North Island Silvertips goaltender Derek Krall's best efforts, the Okanagan Rockets broke through in the 3rd period for a 4-2 win on Sunday morning at the Capital News Centre. The win was the Rockets 16th straight against North Island.
Krall was sensational for the Silvertips, and after a 3rd period short-handed goal pulled the Silvertips and Rockets even at 2-2, it looked like Krall's heroics might be enough to help engineer a shocking result against the Rockets.
For Krall and the Tips, it wasn't meant to be however. Kaden Black, and Tre Doyon scored goals at 11:23 and 12:48 of the 3rd period and didn't look back in the 4-2 win. Krall finished the contest with 46 saves.
Cole Demers improved to 7-2-1 with a 2.60 goals agains average on the season as he made 29 saves in the victory.
Brett Witala (11th) and Lucas Cullen (5th) also scored in the win, while both Brandon Whistle and Carter Rhine picked up a pair of assists. Whistle now has a team-leading 18 helpers on the campaign.
The victory improves the Rockets overall record to 16-5-1 and they are now 11-3-1 on home ice. The 2nd place Rockets will travel to Victoria and take on the South Island Royals next weekend. North Island meanwhile drops to 3-16-4.
