Well before the crack of dawn, the Okanagan Rockets were on the bus headed for a 10:00 am matinee affair with the Thompson Blazers.
The Rockets earned a 5-2 win and improved to 12-4-1 on the season.
Despite dominating the shot clock by a 13-1 count in the opening the frame, the lone goal of period came of the stick of Calvin Rout, his 3rd of the year. The Rockets didn't have much in the way of puck luck in the opening period, and likely deserved to be up more than a single goal.
The Rockets poured it on in the 2nd period with 4 markers. Sam Binfet, Ben Dietrich-Scammell, Tre Doyon, and Mark Krabben all scored goals. For both Dietrich-Scammell and captain Krabben, the goals were their 1st of the season.
The Blazers gained a small measure of revenge with a power play goal early in the 3rd, and another one late to make the final 5-2.
Cole Demers earned the win with 12 saves on 14 Blazers shots.
The clubs will square off again tomorrow for another 10:00 am showdown, this time at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna.
