The Okanagan Rockets received a pair of goals from both Nolan Kneen, and Calvin Rout as they defeated the Kootenay Ice 8-2 on Sunday morning at the Capital News Centre.
For Rout, they were the first two goals of his BCMML career. Tre Doyon of Penticton also found the back of the net for the first time this season.
Also scoring for the Rockets on Sunday were Nolan Kneen (2,3), Brett Witala (3rd), Levi Johnson (6th), and Sam Binfet (5th). Both Brandon Whistle and Zach Erhardt chipped with a pair of assists. Erhardt finished the weekend with 5 assists, while Whistle led all Rockets with 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points over the weekend's two games.
Cole Demers made 21 saves on 23 shots directed his way to win his 3rd straight start. The 15 year old rookie net minder is now 3-1-0 on the year with a tidy goals against average of 2.25 and a save percentage of .917.
The Rockets penalty kill had a big weekend and were pressed into action far too much on Sunday, but held strong killing off all 8 Kootenay chances. Over the two games, the Rockets penalty kill was a perfect 13 for 13. The power play converted once on two chances and went 3 for 6 on the weekend.
The Rockets have now won six straight games and have improved to 8-2-0 on the season.
