The Okanagan Rockets put the brakes on a two game slide thanks to a 6-2 win over the South Island Royals at the Capital News Centre on Saturday afternoon.
After dropping a pair of games to the 1st place Vancouver NW Giants, the Rockets responded with their best effort of the young season.
Sam Binfet (2,3) and Levi Johnson (1,2) each scored twice to pace the Rockets attack.
Marcus Mitchell continued his scorching hot start to the season as he picked up his 6th goal and added 2 assists for a 3 point night.
West Kelowna's Jordan Todd, called up to replace the injured Lucas Cullen scored in his Rockets debut to put the finishing touches on the win.
The Rockets led 1-0 after one period, and 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The Royals gave themselves some hope with an early 3rd period marker from their leading scorer Kayden Peck. Peck threw the puck of Rockets starter Jordan Reynolds from behind the goal line just 24 seconds into the final frame. Ultimately it was close as the Royals would get as Johnson and Todd put the game away in the final stages of the 3rd.
Reynolds improved to 3-1-0 in goal as he stopped 14 of 16 shots. Lane Delfs finished with 30 saves.
The Rockets PK was excellent once more as they killed all 4 Royals power play chances in the game, while the power play converted once in six chances.
The Royals and Rockets will wrap up their weekend set tomorrow morning at 10:00.
