Giants Sweep Weekend Set From Rockets

October 5, 2014

The Okanagan Rockets suffered a rare home ice sweep thanks to the Vancouver NW Giants 3-1 win on Sunday morning at the Capital News Centre.

The Rockets went 19-0-1 on home ice during the 13-14 season are now 2-2-0 at the CNC after another loss to the Giants.

The Rockets offence was held in check for a second game by the Giants who have now allowed an MML best 6 goals against in their six games.

After David Tendeck put on a display in the Giants goal on Saturday, it was Beck Warm's turn on Sunday as the 15 year old net minder stopped 28 of 29 shots the Rockets directed his way.

Cole Demers got his 1st career BCMML start on Sunday and impressed with several top quality saves.  Demers suffered the loss while  stopping 23 of 26.

The lone goal of the contest on Sunday came of the stick of Sam Binfet who picked up his 1st of the season.

The power play struggled on Sunday and was likely a key difference in the game.  The Rockets were held off the board in 6 opportunities including a full two minute 5 on 3 power play while trailing 2-1 in the 3rd period.

The loss drops the Rockets to 2-2-0, while the Giants improved to a perfect 6-0-0 on the season.  The Rockets will now face the South Island Royals from Victoria next weekend at the CNC.  Games go Saturday at 3:00 pm and Sunday at 10:00 am.
