After an opening weekend that saw the Rockets win a pair of games over the Vancouver NE Chiefs, the Rockets are forced to sit back and watch while the rest of the BCMML gathers in Richmond for the league's annual showcase event.
While it's not ideal to have a bye-week so quickly into the season, the club's staff are embracing the early break and encouraging rest. "If there was anything I learned last season, it's take the rest where you can find it." said general manager David Michaud. "The BCMML schedule is a long one, and by the time you factor in the Mac's and KIMMT tournaments, there isn't a whole bunch of rest by the time the season comes to an end."
While some would say a weekend off at this point of the schedule only stalls the momentum the Rockets generated during their opening weekend, new head coach Simon Ferguson thinks the timing is great. "It allowed us the chance to get a couple of games under our belt and now have some time together as a group to work on things. There wasn't a whole bunch of time between having the team selected and the way it worked this season, we didn't have an exhibition game with our full team. I think the break comes at a good time."
The Rockets return to action on Saturday October 4th and 5th when they host the Vancouver NW Giants.
