Behind some stellar goaltending from 17 year old Jordan Reynolds, the Okanagan Rockets earned a 3-1 win over the Vancouver NE Chiefs to improve to 2-0-0 on the young season.
Reynolds, making his 2nd straight start was simply fantastic as he turned aside 31 of the 32 shots the veteran laden Chiefs directed his way. On the weekend, Reynolds stopped 66 of 70 shots for a sparkling .943 save percentage.
Marcus Mitchell continued his torrid pace to start the season, as he followed up his 4 goal, 1 assist effort on Saturday with another 1+1 on Sunday. Mitchell now has 5 goals and 2 assists for the Rockets in the clubs first 2 games.
Also scoring on Sunday for the Rockets was Lucas Cullen (1+1), and defenceman Nolan Kneen with his 1st BCMML goal.
The Rockets penalty kill was particularly effective on Sunday going 6 for 6, while the power play was 1 for 5.
The Rockets will now head into their 1st bye week of the season as they skip the BCMML Showcase in Richmond next weekend. The break will give them 2 full weeks to prepare for a visit from their long time rivals, the Vancouver NW Giants on October 4th and 5th at the Capital News Centre.
