The roster of the Okanagan Rockets continued to take shape on Sunday with the conclusion of their Annual Ice Breaker Weekend.
The Rockets have announced commitments to the following players:
Connor Bowey - D
Danny Gatenby - D
Zack Erhardt - F
Calvin Rout - F
Brett Witala - F
The Rockets are waiting on the status of Mitchell Oliver (Vernon Vipers), Carter Rhine (Surrey Eagles), Sam De Melo (Salmon Arm Silverbacks), and Noah Turanski (Coquitlam Express) all remain away. The Rockets need to officially submit their roster by September 15th.
Rockets general manager David Michaud was impressed with the young players this weekend. "The future of hockey in our valley is in great shape. I was very impressed with how difficult the players have made these decisions for us."
The Rockets are down to 10 defenceman, 13 forwards, and their 2 goaltenders.
17 year old Jordan Reynolds and 15 year old Cole Demers, a prospect of the Prince George Cougars, will man the crease for the Rockets this season. While Reynolds heads into the season as the consensus number one, Michaud was quick to point out that Demers will push and challenge the 17 year old for ice time. "We were pretty clear to Cole that we wanted him to push Jordan and make him as uncomfortable as possible. Jordan is excited about being our guy, and will be a great mentor for the younger goalie. We think the duo will help us win a lot of games this year, and also give us some stability for the long term as Cole is only 15 years old."
The Rockets will practice again this week and wait for word on the potential of anymore players returning to the club.
