For the 1st time in club history, the Okanagan Rockets are hosting an initiation camp for 1st year players.
1999 born players will be able to get a taste of life in the BCMML during a week long camp that will run from June 6th to June 11th at the Capital News Centre.
"It's something that we discussed last season, but it never happened" said Rockets general manager David Michaud. "We are always asked abut our program and what it's like for 1st year players, so we thought why not open up our doors and give players and parents a first hand look at what a week in the life of the Okanagan Rockets is all about."
The initiation camp will be run by the Rockets head coach Mack O'Rourke. "We think it's a great idea for us to introduce our program to players and parents. We will spend some time on skill development and have some fun with compete drills and of course some scrimmage time during the week."
After the club's most successful season, the interest in the Rockets program has never been higher. "I've never received this many calls, this early" said Michaud who is entering his 5th season as the clubs general manager. "Typically there has been a slow build towards our evaluation camp in August, but this year with the success we had it seems to have peaked a little earlier than usual."
The camp will include a parent information / question and answer session as well as 5 x 1.5 hour ice sessions. The camp will be capped at 36 skaters and 4 goalies and the cost is $165.00. To register, please email email@example.com.
