Facing a must win scenario, the Rockets blasted the Toronto Young Nationals 11-2 before later getting some help from the Prince Albert Mintos. The combination of a Rockets win and a Halifax loss means the Rockets are playing a semi-final on Saturday.
"Our goal coming to Moose Jaw was to put ourselves in a position to be playing on the weekend, it may not have been the best path to take, but at the end of the day we are right were we need to be." said Rockets general manager David Michaud.
The Rockets were a group with many questions following a tough 5-4 loss to the Halfiax MacDonalds on Thursday. "We did a whole bunch of soul searching after the Halifax loss" continued Michaud. "We asked the players to trust in the process and to wake up Friday with a positive mindset. They played a tremendous game today and did everything Mack O'Rourke asked, it was fitting that we got the help we needed because the players did a whale of a job."
The Rockets won't learn their semi-final opponent until the conclusion of the round robin. A Chateauguay win and the Rockets will play Prince Albert. A Moose Jaw win and the Rockets will have a semi-final rematch against the Toronto Young Nationals.
