For a second consecutive season, the Okanagan Rockets and the Vancouver NW Giants will meet at the Burnaby Winter Club to decide the BCMML champion.
Game 1: Friday March 21st - 6:30 pm
Game 2: Saturday March 22nd - 6:30 pm
Game 3: Sunday March 23rd - 11:00 am *If Nec
The Season Series: For the first time in club history the Rockets earned a season series win over the Giants with a record of 2-1-1 in the 4 games. The Rockets were 2-0-0 at the Cap News Centre, while the Giants were 1-0-1 at BWC. The Rockets outscored the Giants 14-11 in the 4 games.
Nice to See You Again: Simply put, the Rockets feel like they owe the Giants one. The Giants claimed their 5th straight championship last season at the expense of the Rockets during a 3 game thriller. The Giants won Game 1 3-1 with an empty netter putting the game away. The Rockets forced a game 3 with an epic triple overtime thriller that was finally ended after midnight when Liam Finlay tipped home a Gen Bryshun point shot for a 4-3 win. In game 3, the Giants scored the lone goal of the game half way through the 2nd period power play goal. The Giants would hold on for a 1-0 win.
Look Who’s Back: The Rockets return 7 members of the squad that lost game 3 to the Giants last season. Those 7 players represent a total of 507 BCMML games of experience as well as 135 goals and 400 pts. On the other side of the coin, the Giants will be relying on a new crop of players to continue the winning tradition as only Colton Kerfoot and Quinn Thompson return from last year's squad.
Playoff Breakdown: The Giants are a perfect 4-0 in the playoffs after a sweep of both the South Island Royals and last weekend the Greater Vancouver Canadians in the semi-finals. The Giants have 17 goals for, while allowing just 6 goals. The Rockets have taken a slightly different route to the finals, a high flying route. The Rockets are 4-1 after sweeping Fraser Valley and being pushed to a 3rd game by the Valley West Hawks. The Rockets have scored a BCMML playoff leading 32 goals in the 5 games, while allowing an uncharacteristic 18 goals against.
Leaders of the Pack: After leading the BCMML in goals and points during the regular season, Tyson Jost is up to his old tricks in the playoffs. Jost leads all scorers with 15 points (8+7) in 5 games. Liam Finlay is the MML's leading playoff goal scorer with 9 goals in 5 games. Dante Fabbro is the Giants leading playoff scorer with 8 points in 4 games and currently sits 9th in the playoff scoring race.
