Weekend Preview: Rockets vs. Cougars

The Okanagan Rockets are coming off back to back disappointing weekends which has resulted in the Cariboo Cougars overtaking them for 2nd place in the BCMML standings. The Rockets head north to Prince George this weekend with the opportunity to right the ship and not only re-claim 2nd place, but gain some valuable momentum as the regular season winds down.

Last Weekend: The Rockets saw a 27 game unbeaten streak against the Thompson Blazers come to a halt on Sunday with a 4-2 loss. The Rockets were 5-2 winners on Saturday at the Capital News Centre. The Cougars meanwhile picked up 4 points in Nelson, as they overpowered the Kooteny Ice 8-2 and 8-3.  Saturday's game was marred by an ugly post game incident which featured multiple post game fights and has led to numerous suspensions to both the Cougars and the Ice.

When We Saw You Last: The Rockets and Cougars split their 1st weekend of the season back in early November at the Capital News Centre. The Rockets earned a 5-1 win in the 1st game before the Cougars hammered them the next day 8-0. The loss remains the most lopsided defeat the Rockets have suffered this year, it's also the only loss the Rockets have suffered at the CNC this season.

There is No Place Like Home: The Capital News Centre has not been a kind place to visiting clubs this season. The Rockets are 14-1-3 at home and have outscored their opponents 96-38 in the process.

Road Trip!: The Rockets are in the midst of a season long 7 game road trip. The road swing started with a 4-2 loss in Chase to the Thompson Blazers. The road trip will see the Rockets make stops this weekend in Prince George, next weekend in Victoria, and finally in Richmond on February 15th and 16th. All told, the Rockets will travel nearly 3300 km's on the trip. Ironically, that is almost the exact distance from the Capital News Centre to Sault St. Marie, Ontario, the site of this years Telus Cup.....Just sayin...

O Captain! My Captain: Rockets Captain Branden Wagner was listed this week by the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. Wagner has 64 points in 67 games in a Rockets uniform.

Rising Stock: Brett Mennear has passed Ryan Aynsley on the Rockets all-time scoring list and has moved into 3rd place. Mennear has 75 points in his two seasons. Mennear trails Harlan Orr by 10 points for 2nd place, and Brett Mulcahy by 11 points for the top spot on the all-time list.
