Slow Start Haunts Rockets in Loss to Cougars
The Cariboo Cougars jumped out to a jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and despite seeing the Rockets pull even in the 2nd period were able to regain the momentum and pull away for a 5-3 win at the CN Centre in Prince George on Saturday afternoon.
The loss is a costly one for the Rockets who now trail the Cougars by 4 points in the BCMML standings.
The Rockets got goals from Joe Gatenby, Spencer Hewson and Brett Mennear in the loss. Gatenby and Hewson also had an assist each.
Reid Kilburn took the loss in goal for the Rockets giving up all 5 goals on 31 shots against. Nathan Warren was solid in the contest as he turned aside 38 of the 41 Rockets shots.
Special teams were a huge factor in the contest today as the Cougars power play was red hot going 3-4 on the day while the Rockets managed a late power play goal to finish 1 for 5.
The Rockets now trail the season series 1-2-0 heading into Sunday's season finale between these two clubs.
With the loss, the Rockets record now sits at 21-5-5. The Cougars improved 25-7-1.
