Royals and Rockets are Fit to be Tied

Cole Pickup scored the only goal of the 3rd period as the South Island Royals rallied to steal a point from the Okanagan Rockets on Saturday night.

The Rockets trio of Brett Mennear, Liam Finlay, and Josh Blanchard each scored once and combined for 9 points, however it wasn't enough to overcome a determined South Royals squad who's record now sit's at 4-6-5 with the tie.

The Rockets meanwhile drop to 9-2-2 on the year, and are now winless in their past two dates at the Capital News Centre.

The Rockets jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the 1st and scored twice more in a wild 2nd period that saw the Royals strike 3 times to keep the game close at 4-3 after 40.

The Rockets out shot the Royals 32-20 in the contest including 13-5 in the 3rd.

Brenden Mills stopped 16 of 20 shots and fell to 4-2-2 on the season personally.

The Rockets recognized Royals starting goalie Marcus Daly and their own Joe Gatenby prior to the game. The two were teammates with Team BC who claimed goald at the U16 Western  Canada Championships in Calgary last week. Daly stopped 28 shots for the Royals on the afternoon.

The Rockets will go in search of their 10th win tomorrow morning at 10:00 am at the Capital News Centre.
