Rockets Have Game to Remember
The Okanagan Rockets spent some time on Sunday chatting about their identity, about what type of team they were after two sup-par efforts. Needless to say, the Rockets found their game on Sunday morning with a 9-2 trouncing of the visiting South Island Royals.
"We chatted as a group early Sunday that there are ups and downs in every season. We felt that the past two games (a 8-0 loss to the Cougars and a 4-4 tie on Saturday with South Island) that we got away from the things that have made us successful to this point in this season" said Rockets general manager David Michaud. "We stressed that we are a team that thrives off speed and that we have to play that way to continue having success. As a staff, we like the way we responded to that message, today was a much better day."
Brett Mennear continued his hot offensive play on Sunday picking up a pair of goals and an assist. He finished the weekend with 3 goals and 3 helpers.
Also scoring for the Rockets were Brendan Wagner (13,14) and Carter Hikichi (2,3), both had a pair of goals, while Spencer Hewson (8th), Josh Blanchard (10th), and Alex Gran (5th) added singles.
Reid Kilburn stopped 12 of 14 shots to improve to a perfect 6-0-0 on the season.
The Rockets improve their overall record to 10-2-2 on the year and are now 6-1-2 at the Capital News Centre. The Rockets 22 points have them sitting in 3rd place in the MML standings.
Next up for the Rockets is a date with the Greater Vancouver Canadians at the Capital News Centre next Saturday and Sunday. The Canadians ended the Rockets season a year ago with a 2 game sweep in the opening round of the BCMML playoffs.
