Rockets defeat Thunderbirds to Push Unbeaten Streak to Eight Games
The Okanagan Rockets pushed their unbeaten streak to 8 straight with a sound 6-2 win over the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. The win coupled with the Canadians weekend sweep of the Cariboo Cougars gives the Rockets sole possession of 2nd place in the BCMML standings.
Once more, the Rockets offensive attack was led by emerging sensation Josh Blanchard. For the 2nd time in 3 games Blanchard netted a hat-trick, his team leading 17th, 18th, and 19th goals of the season. Blanchard is currently enjoying a 5 game point streak. Over that time he has amassed 14 points.
Also scoring for the Rockets were Cory Santoro who scored his 6th goal of the season to open things up. Justin Marreck picked up his 4th goal in his last 3 games, giving him 7 on the season, while defencemen Gen Bryshun finised up the scoring with his 2nd of the year.
Reid Kilburn continued his strong play as he stopped 30 of 32 shots in the Rockets goal. Kilburn finished the weekend turning aside 50 of the 53 shots he faced over the two games. Kilburn is now 8-0-1 for the Rockets this season.
The win improved the Rockets record to an impressive 14-2-4 in the first half of the MML season. The Rockets were just 8-7-5 at this time a year ago.
Up next for the Rockets is a trip to Vancouver to take on Matthew Barzal and the NE Chiefs next weekend at Planet Ice.
